    Doug is a devoted and experienced litigator in the financial services sector, specializing in commercial litigation, insurance, litigation & alternative dispute resolution, director and officer litigation, and professional liability litigation.

     

    Doug joined the firm in 2022 from the national firm Husch Blackwell, where he served on the firm’s Executive Board and garnered more than 30 years’ experience in insurance and professional liability litigation. Doug has prosecuted and defended a number of cases relating to insurance coverage and bad faith issues and has served as general and special counsel to the receivers of insolvent or financially troubled insurance companies. He also has experience prosecuting federal income tax refund claims for insolvent life insurance companies in federal district courts and circuit courts of appeal, and has litigated various other issues against the federal government.

     

    Throughout his career, Doug has established a reputation for securing favorable results for his clients. Among Doug’s many accomplishments include recovering in excess of $250 million on behalf of insolvent insurance companies, freezing more than $40 million in foreign accounts and repatriating those funds back to the United States on behalf of insolvent insurance companies, and obtaining a professional malpractice policy limits settlement against an accounting firm for its malpractice with regard to its audit of a publicly traded company and affiliated companies – without filing a lawsuit. Additionally, Doug represented the liquidator of the first insolvent Health Insurance Cooperative established under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and addressed numerous issues of first impression with regard to the ACA and HHS, CMS and DOJ and has recovered in excess of $150 million of behalf of the liquidator from HHS, various professionals, and officers and directors of the failed company.
